The latest advances in the treatment of breast cancer and research including innovations in Diagnostics, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation are approaches Friday, April 8, 2011, be discussed at a breast cancer Symposium at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson in Philadelphia.
The full-day, breast cancer Symposium, part of an annual series at the Kimmel Cancer Center, is on the Bluemle life sciences building, 233 S. 10th Street, starts at 8:30 pm place
"Breast cancer is a multi-disciplinary effort, with input from a variety of specialists, such as pathologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists and medical oncologists, who decide on treatment and care," Richard Pestell, m.d., says PhD., Director of the Kimmel Cancer Center at the Jefferson and Professor and Chair of cancer biology at the Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.
"This symposium is that for the next generation of Therapeutics in women with breast cancer a opportunity for the players together to come to highlight the innovative discoveries which we believe will be important," he adds.
A number of issues is covered here by top experts in the Jefferson and other institutions in the United States.
Michael Lisanti, m.d., Professor of cancer biology at the Jefferson Medical College, discuss the recent work with new models for cancer, "the reverse Warburg effect" and "the Autophagic tumor stroma model of cancer." His studies have shown, as mitochondrial oxidative stress plays a role in cancer development and how cancer metabolism predict is used clinical results.
"High risk patients with breast cancer, those whose Krebszellen use high energy metabolites can be treated with new Therapeutics, the mitochondrial oxidative metabolism aim," said Dr. Lisanti. "We should reconsider, with antioxidants and Autophagy inhibitors as anti-cancer agents."
