Cancer Summit held in Hong Kong, organized by the Lancet Oncology

A 2.5 day cancer Summit, organized by the Lancet Oncology, only on April 8-10, 2011 in Hong Kong, China, place. The event moved out from Asia and together leading names in the area of Oncology.

A series of presentations was held at the Summit with some highlights below contain. Guo and colleagues presented a paper analysis, whether use of oral alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) can prevent pain associated with chemotherapy. But they find high drop out rates (65% in ALA group and 56% in the placebo group) and this shows that intensive use can be oral means, to prevent difficult symptoms.

Another exciting study of de Lima Lopes and colleagues looked at the use of the nanoparticle albumin bound (NAB)-paclitaxel (NAB-P) in patients with advanced pancreatic cancer treatment not reacting to conventional Gemcitabine. Such patients have limited options. The researchers find that NAB-P in some of the studied (with a partial answer in 1 and stabilized disease in an other 6) operates 19 patients. Wait on the results of a phase 3 trial trying to confirm its effectiveness.

Elsewhere, Yan and colleagues have shown that video-assisted thoracic surgery not to shorter survival as leads not conventional open praise Lobectomy in patients with non-small cell lung cancer. And Liang and colleagues reported the results of its phase 2 trial version in the Nimotuzumab use for esophageal cancer. Almost two-thirds of the patients showed a response or had stabilized their disease, this treatment confirmed as effective.
